Dog Grooming

Grooming

  • Grooming is an essential part of a dog’s life and it’s important to introduce it early in your puppy’s life so that they develop a sense of trust and comfort with the handling of their body.

    Benefits of regular grooming

    • Maintain a clean and well-groomed coat

    • Reduces health issues (like dental issues)

    • Early detection of potential health issues (e.g. skin conditions, lumps, etc.)

    • Strengthens the bond between you and your dog

Tips for a more pleasant grooming experience

    • Get your puppy used to touch early on; gently touch your puppy’s ears, eye area, and paws when they are in a calm and relaxed state & reward with treats or praise if they tolerate it. Don’t force it.

    • Get help from professionals: some groomers offer puppy grooming services that help getting puppies slowly used to the grooming process.

    • Use high-quality products.

    • Keep a regular grooming schedule.

    • Familiarize yourself with the distinct grooming needs of your dog's breed to ensure tailored and attentive care.

    • Check out tips for common behavior issues (e.g. anxiety or aggressive behavior) in our Training section.

  • Many dog owners underestimate the significance of oral hygiene in maintaining their pets' overall health. By the age of three, a majority of dogs exhibit signs of canine periodontal disease (primary sign: bad breath). However, untreated dental issues can lead to severe consequences, including tooth loss, painful abscesses, and systemic infections. Neglecting oral hygiene increases the risk of permanent jaw damage and heart disease in dogs. To safeguard your canine companion's well-being, it is crucial to implement effective dental care practices. Here are some tips to ensure your dog's teeth stay clean and healthy.

    Teeth Brushing
Regularly brushing your dog’s teeth is a practical measure to prevent plaque buildup, even if not done daily. It’s important to use dog-specific toothpaste (human toothpaste contains ingredients that are toxic to dogs) and a dog toothbrush that suits your dog’s comfort.

    Dog Dental Wipes

If brushing your dog’s teeth is challenging and you want to try an alternative method, dental wipes can be an effective solution. These wipes are designed to be gently rubbed against your dog's teeth to get rid of plaque. They're not as thorough as a toothbrush, but they're way easier to handle and still do a good job of keeping your pet's teeth clean.

    Dog Dental Treats

Dental treats for dogs are a tasty and effective way to boost your pup's oral health. Specifically designed to remove plaque and often featuring breath-freshening ingredients, these treats offer a good alternative to toothbrushes or wipes.

    Dog Chews

There is a wide variety of dog chews and almost all of them offer teeth-cleaning benefits, as the act of chewing itself promotes oral health by scraping off plaque.

Examples: cow ears, bully sticks, chicken strips - or if you want to reduce the calories intake you can use long-lasting rubber or nylon dog chew toys

    Professional Cleanings

The most effective measure to ensure your dog’s oral health is a professional cleaning by a veterinarian. While pricier than other tips, this method ensures expert care tailored to your dog's needs. Veterinarians possess the expertise to detect and address dental issues that might go unnoticed by even the most dedicated dog parents.
